What is EM?
Effective Microorganisms (EM) is a living, life-promoting consortium of GM-free lactic acid bacteria, photosynthetic bacteria, and yeasts. BioProffa Emma is an “activated” EM that can be used for diverse purposes. Emma is a must have. It is often used as a probiotic (microbially stimulating) soil amendment, and as an inoculant for organic matter, both outside (such as a compost pile), or inside in closed systems (such as a Bokashi kitchen composter).

Where to use EMMA?

When applied to organic matter (such as biowaste in a Bokashi or compost), the different EM microbes work synergistically to upcycle nutrients into diverse vitamins, enzymes, hormones, and bacterial biomass, providing the amazing benefits that EM is known for. Energy and matter cycles in the system, and is not lost as heat and greenhouse gases. EMMA is often used as an outdoor “hot compost” accelerator for this reason.

In the soil, plants are a significant benefactor, as they save energy absorbing the higher order compounds that EM microbes create. Additionally, EM stimulates and feeds the indigenous microbes and fungi found in the soil ecosystem (having a knock-on effect that benefits the broader ecosystem).

In ponds (and bodies of water broadly), EM reduces algae growth and sludge formation (as it feeds on it).

In plants EM encourages germination, root formation, blossoming, fruitification, ripening of plants and much more. Due to EM microbes’ ability to efficiently convert organic matter into plant-available forms, plants can invest more of their energy (sugars) into stronger growth and sweeter fruit.

How to Use?
BioProffa Em-Active Emma is diluted (often 50-100:1, due in part to its low 3.5 pH) and sprayed on, or mixed with irrigation water. The solution should be applied immediately after mixing as this when the Effective Microorganisms are at their most active.
