Klaus TeuberinCatan (Settlers of Catan, Siedler von Catan) is a game that has been awarded with several Game of the Year awards and has pioneered the new wave of German board games. It puts players in the position of new builders to populate the ever-changing island of Catan.
The game board is assembled from hexagonal tiles, so the island is different for every game. Roads and houses describe the players' developing settlement on the island. The game's components are of first-class quality and look simply elegant.
The game has many features that make it a favorite game of many: a different board that can be assembled from parts every time guarantees variety to the game, the rules are easy and clear, instead of fighting, the competition takes place by trading and building, the game has a suitable dose of luck...
On each turn, the active player rolls a dice. A roll of the dice tells which areas produce raw materials. If the player has a village or city next to that area, he gets cards. After that, the players can exchange cards with each other as they wish. Finally, the active player can use his cards to build new roads, villages at the end of the roads, and cities in place of the villages. Development cards describing the development of living can also be obtained.
The game has a few twists and turns along the way. The player who casts the stalemate gets to move the bandit that takes cards, prevents production in the occupied area and allows players to steal cards from other players. Players can also argue with each other, although direct warfare is not allowed. The most common tactic is to build your village in such a way that the other player cannot get to the places they want. The faster builder always takes the best places!
Getting to know Catan is an essential part of general education in the board game industry. In addition, it is an exceptionally good game, which is also excellent for attracting new enthusiasts to board games.
