Celestron has reinvented the manual telescope with the StarSense Explorer - the first telescope that uses a smartphone to analyze the night sky and calculate position in real time. StarSense Explorer is ideal for beginners thanks to the app's user-friendly interface and detailed tutorials. It's like having your own personal guide to the night sky.
Dock, Launch, Explore
Leave complicated star charts, inaccurate planetarium apps and computerized tripods behind. With the StarSense Explorer application, determining the position of celestial bodies is easier, faster and more accurate. Within a few minutes of setting up the telescope, you can already navigate the sky naturally. Simply place your phone in the exclusive StarSense dock and launch the StarSense Explorer app. Once you've aligned your phone with the telescope's optics (a quick, 2-minute process), StarSense Explorer will generate a list of celestial bodies currently visible. Make your choice and arrows will appear on the screen to guide you to move the telescope. When the target is ready to be viewed, the sight will turn green.
Smartphone compatibility
StarSense Explorer works on most modern smartphones, such as iPhone 6 or later, and most devices running Android 7.1.2 or later, manufactured in 2016 or later.
StarSense Sky Recognition technology
StarSense Explorer uses patented technology and your smartphone to determine exactly where the telescope is pointing in the night sky. A Lost in Space algorithm (LISA), like those used by satellites in orbit to orient themselves correctly, helps the app match constellations it sees in the sky with its own internal database.
While other astronomy apps may claim to help you find celestial bodies, they rely solely on the phone's gyroscopes and accelerometer, which aren't as accurate as LISA technology. No other app can accurately tell you when an object is visible in the eyepiece.
Sturdy Altazimuth mount
StarSense Explorer LT's easy-to-use Altazimuth mount makes it easy to move the telescope to find your target. With slow-motion elevation control, you can fine-tune the position where the telescope is pointing and track objects as they appear to fly across the night sky. And it's all anchored to an adjustable, full-height stand.
Dazzling Views with High Quality Optics
You can expect sharp, clear views with this 70mm refractor. Fully coated glass optics improve light transmission and enhance celestial detail. The telescope also includes a 90-degree angle mirror, so you can use it during the day to view birds, wildlife, landscapes and more.
Perfect for Urban or Dark Sky Areas
Even if you live in a light-polluted city, StarSense Explorer is advanced enough to find Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, the Orion Nebula, binary stars, and a few more of the most famous celestial bodies.
But if you can take the telescope to a slightly darker place, more celestial bodies will be visible. The entire telescope set weighs only 4.2 kilograms, making it extremely portable and easy to bring to your next excursion or remote observation area.
When you open your new StarSense Explorer LT telescope, you will find in the box:
70 mm lens telescope StarSense dock for your smartphone Low power (25mm) and high power (10mm) eyepiece The 2x Barlow lens doubles the power of each eyepiece 90 degree angle mirror StarPointer red dot finder, perfect for daytime telescope use or without the StarSense Explorer app Altazimuth mount with slow motion control A full-height stand and accessory tray help keep your accessories organized
