To change the oil, you need the following supplies and tools: Sufficient amount of new oil, new oil filter, copper gasket, oil filter key, socket wrench (for the drain plug), jack, drain plug, pouring jug and trassel (for wiping the oil) and oil drain pan. Any saucer is suitable for draining.
Jack the car up enough to access the drain plug under the engine. There may be a protective plate in the front, in which case the protective plate must first be removed from the front. Use a socket wrench to open the drain plug and place a drain pan underneath. If the car has been driven recently, beware of hot engine oil.
Allow the oil to drain from the engine, remove the oil filler cap on top of the engine to allow the oil to drain from the engine faster. Change the oil filter. In most cars, the oil filter is located on either side of the engine. In some cases, the filter has its own tank (e.g. BMW brand cars). In these, only the filter interior is changed.
Remove the filter with an oil filter wrench. There is usually engine oil in the filter, be careful not to spill the oil on the ground. Place a sufficiently large rag around or under the filter housing so that the leaking oil does not contaminate the engine room.
