Blacksteel carbon steel ingots are nitrided, after which they are heated in a furnace in nitrogen gas, which creates a hard black oxide layer on the surface of the steel. Blacksteel pans are also pre-treated with vegetable oil, which in itself also improves corrosion resistance.
The non-stick properties of Blacksteel pans improve with use. The 3 mm thick body does not bend even in heavy use.
