The Tiger II, developed in 1943, unofficially known as the King Tiger, was mass-produced by Henschel from 1944 onwards. The King Tiger combined the demands for armor protection and firepower in an outstanding way.The front armor, up to 150 mm thick, could not be penetrated by any projectiles from the on-board cannons of enemy battle tanks. The sides of the hull were armored up to 80 mm thick.Despite several massive bombing attacks by the Allies on the Henschel plant in Kassel - including the prototypes and 50 vehicles equipped with a Porsche tower - a total of 492 Tiger IIs were delivered to the troops. But not all of them reached the front line units.A large number of the Tiger II was lost due to drive problems resulting from the high total weight or simply due to a lack of fuel.
