Clydesdale horses are the largest horses in the world. When fully grown, their height is 160-180 cm. Only Shire horses and Brabant horses are bigger than them.
Clydesdale horses grow more slowly than other horse breeds. Foals are fully grown only at the age of seven or eight years instead of four or five years. Then they weigh more than 1,000 kilograms - that is, the equivalent of one small car. They are so strong that they can pull objects that are much heavier than them. This also means that they need a lot of food and water. They need 20-25 kilos of grain with minerals and vitamins and about 50-60 kilos of hay every day. Needless to say, this makes them thirsty – really thirsty. Clydesdale horses drink more than 100 liters of water a day.
Fun fact The foals of Clydesdale horses are almost a meter tall when they are born.
