Decorative and practical, Hydroleca is made from natural clay without chemical additives. Hydroleca has a smooth, dense outer shell and a honeycomb interior. Although Hydroleca is primarily designed for aquaculture, its durable porous structure makes it a popular material for many uses, primarily to add aeration to the soil.
Mixed with soil, Hydroleca effectively reduces oxygen deficiency and root rot caused by excessive moisture. It absorbs water and nutrients, and releases it evenly according to the plant's needs, reducing the need for irrigation.
On the soil surface, Hydroleca is decorative and practical, as it creates a moist microclimate for the plants. The moisture absorbed by the Hydroleca slowly evaporates around the plant.
At the bottom of a pot, Hydroleca's strong structure makes it practical for drainage.
As such, Hydrosora alone provides an excellent substrate for aquaculture.
Features •Decorative and functional •For indoor and outdoor use •Ideal for hydroponics •Assists in aeration of growing media •Moisture balancing - Hydroleca absorbs and releases water slowly •Over-watering protection and water drainage - reduces root rot •Lightweight but structurally strong - resists Finnish frosts. •Good thermal insulation properties due to porous structure •Creates a beneficial, moist microclimate. •Ideal for crocking and improving humidity •Contains little organic matter •Density: 5.65kg/l •58 mg/kg (TM) nickel (Ni) •pH value (CaCl2): 7.9 •Ingredients: Fired natural clay (without chemical additives) •Grit size: 4–8 mm •Package: 28 x 28 x 3 cm, 1.3 kg, 3L
Usage Hydroleca can be used for various purposes, throughout the year, both indoors and outdoors.
•Soil Amendment: Add Hydroleca to potting soil in a ratio of one part Hydroleca to three parts soil to grow a wide range of plants, including small trees and shrubs. This will provide good water retention and aeration, improving plant root growth and overall plant health.
•Potted Houseplants: Place the permeable plant pot on a layer of Hydroleca which will absorb water and release it slowly to prevent root damage caused by oversaturated plant mediums.
•Repotting with Drainage Layer (“Crocking”): Put a handful of Hydroleca in the bottom of the pot before filling with soil to achieve reliable drainage with decent moisture retention.
•Greenhouse Trays: Fill a tray with a 2 cm layer of Hydroleca and place plant pots on top. Keep the Hydroleca moist so that it gradually releases moisture to the plants placed on its surface and improves greenhouse humidity
•Decorative Topping: Sprinkle a layer of Hydroleca onto the soil surface. The Hydroleca sustains a humid micro-climate around the plant, especially beneficial in centrally heated homes
•Hydroponics: Remove the plant from the old container and remove dead roots and loose substrate. Water the Hydroleca before repotting to remove fine sediment. Add a layer of Hydroleca, place the plant on the Hydroleca, and fill the container.
