The Sphero Activity Mat 1 includes several great activities that connect coding across the curriculum with the Sphero SPRK+. Students aged 4-16+ can use the mat when drawing, making blocks or as text in the Sphero Edu application. 2 groups with 2 students should use the mat at a time, both SPRK+.
The racetrack challenge. Together, students can program the Sphero SPRK+ around the track on the outside of the mat. 2 student teams can compete against each other to complete a reversible race track. Students ages 7-16+ can use Block or Text projects to create their own code to power SPRK+. They must take into account directions, angles, speed, distance and time when programming SPRK+ around the course.
Circles Challenge 1. Students answer math questions by programming SPRK+ to move to one of the numbers. The teacher can ask "5+6" or "square root of 81", and students of any age can program the SPRK+ to the correct number using a Draw, Blocks or Text project.
Circles Challenge 2. Each colored circle is a vertex of a 2D shape. The path between each circle of the same color is a side of the 2D shape. Yellow = square. Red = rectangle. Blue = hexagon. Green = Scalene Triangle. Purple = right triangle. Students can use a drawing, block, or text project using code to explore the properties of 2D shapes.
Gates Challenge. A truly interactive challenge that develops problem-solving skills, student collaboration, computational thinking, and knowledge of angles, shape, and space. Starting with 'START HERE' and ending with 'DONE HERE', students must use a block or text project and follow the instructions for each gate. Students will really enjoy expanding their mathematical knowledge as they explore sound, motion and light with SPRK+.
