Isomaltose, i.e. decorating sugar, is made only from grape sugar and is an excellent sugar substitute. Isomaltose becomes liquid at 95 degrees.
Carefully melt the icing sugar in a saucepan. The material can best be processed at 150-170 degrees. Melted decorative sugar can be colored with food coloring. Fill the molds with liquid isomaltose and let cool. Hardened decorating sugar can always be melted again. The colored decorating sugar must not be overheated.
